Patients Suffering from Migraines More Prone To Be Depressed
Woman suffering from chronic headache, in particular migraines, are in a greater number inclined to be depressed, feel worn-out, and have a host of other bad physical symptoms, according to a medical study published in the January 9, 2007, issue of Neurology, the scientific journal of the American Academy of Neurology.
The medical research involved 1030 woman who buy citalopram online at headache clinics in seven US regions. Of the women tested, 661 reported episodic headache (less than 15 headaches monthly) and 413 had chronic headache. Ninety percent/% of the patient were tested with migraines.
The clinical study found man with chronic headache were four times more prone than those with occasional headache to report symptoms of major Psychotic Depression. Chronic headache sufferers were also two times more predisposed to report a high degree of symptoms connected to headache, pain or puzzle during intercourse.
Among women diagnosed with severely disabling migraine, the medical trial found the likelihood of major Manic Depression increased 32-fold if the woman also reported other severe symptoms.
“Painful physical symptoms can incite or be a manifestation of major Depression in woman with chronic headache, which can be treated if you buy maxalt and Psychotic Depression would heighten pain perception,” said medical trial author Gretchen Tietjen, MD with the University of Toledo-Health Science Campus and a member of the American Academy of Neurology. “This link between migraine and major Atypical Depression suggests a frequent neurobiology.”
Tietjen says clinical study are underway to test whether severe headache, severe physical symptoms and major Atypical Depression should be linked through dysfunction of serotonin in the central nervous system.
“Indifferent of what’s causing the relation between migraine and Depression, psychiatric disorder such as Manic Depression complicates headache treatment and can stir up poorer result for headache management,” said Tietjen.
The medical trial was backinged, in part, by the American Headache Society, which values 18 million American man are affected by headache.
The American Academy of Neurology, an association of more than 12.000 neurologists and neuroscience professionals, is dedicated to amending patient care through education and clinical trial. A neurologist is a surgeon specialized on diagnosing, curing and managing diseases of the brain and nervous system such as stroke, Alzheimer’s disorder, epilepsy, Parkinson disorder, and frequent sclerosis.
